Enrolment in a Registered Institution

You will first have to get admitted to a full-time program at a Singapore-approved university, polytechnic, or private college. Upon acceptance, the institution will register you on the SOLAR system.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) operates the Student’s Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system. SOLAR will be the registration portal used by the chosen institution for registration, and you will be allotted a SOLAR reference number.

You must meet the academic requirements pertinent to your chosen course of study. This usually means having the relevant educational background and qualifications deemed acceptable by the Singapore institution that has offered you admission.

Should English not be your language of instruction, you must provide evidence of proficiency in English. Those tests accepted include the IELTS, with a minimum score of 6.0, PTE Academic, or equivalent certifications recognized by the institution.

You must submit evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses. These may be bank statements, loan sanction letters, or sponsorship letters. Most recommend submitting at least SGD 30,000–40,000 (~₹18–24 lakhs).

You must possess a valid Indian passport, and it should have at least 6 months’ validity from your stay date in Singapore. Your passport should be stamped with enough blank pages for visa stamping, if necessary.

Medical examination and submitting vaccination records are based on the needs of the institution or program. This is particularly needed for medical and science-related programs.

All the schools need you to have adequate medical insurance to pay for hospitalisation and health care when you are there. The schools have group insurance, or you can buy one individually.

Singapore Student Visa Process for Indian Students

At EduProfound, we work with Indian students at all stages of university admissions to the Singapore Student Visa (Student Pass). Let us put you through the process:

Step 1

Apply To a University

  • First, apply to a university, or if you received an offer from a recognised university or institute in Singapore. Full-time diploma, undergraduate, or postgraduate courses are eligible.
  • After admission, the institution will assist you in starting the visa process.

Step 2

Institution to Register in SOLAR

  • The chosen institution will register your profile in Singapore’s official Student’s Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system.
  • You will need to note your SOLAR Reference Number for subsequent purposes.

Step 3

File the Forms Online via SOLAR+

  • Take your reference number, then Log in to the ICA SOLAR+ portal.
  • Fill up Form 16 and Form V36 with your personal, academic, and financial details.
  • Check twice to make sure there are no mistakes that will delay your processing.
  • At EduProfound, we offer 1:1 guidance with your application to help demystify this step.

Step 4

Payment of Visa Application Fee

  • The Singapore study visa fees include a non-refundable SGD 30 application charge and additional issuance and entry fees, depending on your course and stay duration.
  • You will get a payment acknowledgement; keep this for reference.

Step 5

Wait for In-Principle Approval (IPA)

  • With the submission, your application is being processed by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
  • If approved, you are given an IPA letter, which is a pre-approval for entry and study in Singapore. In most cases, students receive the IPA within 10-15 working days.

Step 6

Travel to Singapore Using the IPA

  • Travel to Singapore using your IPA letter; no separate tourist visa is required.
  • At immigration, you get a Short-Term Visit Pass, which stays valid until your Student Pass is issued.

Step 7

ICA Appointment for Student Pass Collection

  • Upon arrival, book and attend the e-appointment with ICA.
  • Bring with you all the necessary original documents, submit for biometric scanning, and collect the Student Pass—your genuine long-term visa for the whole period of your studies.
